In a conversation this week I was asked, what does Refinery23 do well? Great question, simple answer with a long back story. We simplify marketing. That’s it. How? Time and experience. You get to simplify things when you know how they work. That comes from time, from getting it wrong and wearing the scars. And now I want to share this knowledge. I’m doing it in two ways:

3 Quick Things
Time is a status symbol
We often think being “busy” is a sign of success, but having control over your time is the ultimate status symbol. If you have a premium product or service, don’t manufacture fake scarcity, but don’t be afraid to take your time either. Consumers understand the “slow food” philosophy and will happily pay more, and wait longer, for something done right.
Stop speaking to everyone
If you think everybody needs your product, you are wrong. Only a few specific people truly need your offering at any given time. Narrow your focus, it makes your target window smaller, leads easier to convert, and the stories you tell much more personal.
Don’t fall into the content trap
Are you afraid to repost a piece of content from three months ago because you think “everyone has already seen it”? They haven’t. Organically, only a tiny fraction of your audience saw it the first time. Don’t get stuck in the endless loop of creating net-new posts—reuse your best stuff and reach the people who missed it.
